Claire Carlton has over 14 years experience in the environmental sector, working on biodiversity conversation and, in more recent years, climate change.
Early on, Claire worked in the computer industry where her love of technology and gadgets took a firm hold. Since then she has combined this love with her natural organisational and networking skills to improve how we communicate both internally and to the world about environmental issues.
She retrained as an ecologist after leaving the corporate world to follow her other passion; strategic environmental conservation. She is interested in the bigger picture and as an ecologist has been able to explore how we can develop projects and programmes that attempt to take into account all aspects of biodiversity and all threats including humans.
Being born and bred in Australia, her biodiversity conservation work started to focus on threats including climate change and people as part of this big picture. Her many years of working with all levels of government and a wide range of community organisations and landholders has resulted in her developing stronger passion for communication and people power. Her motto is that people are the solution to all environmental issues.
Through her community development work in Australia she came to realise that we need more focus on how we translate science and the stories of environmental impacts such as climate change, so that anyone from any culture or country can learn and become motivated to look after our home, planet earth.
She has now combined her love of technology, her passion for environmental conservation and her advanced communication and networking skills to focus more on how we use new media to translate climate change science and engage broader audiences working towards a sustainable future for all. To advance her skills in the area of online and social media she is now doing a Masters of Digital Media.
As a member of the WWF International Climate Change Team she manages the Climate Witness in Action Programme and online and social media for the Climate Policy Campaign.
